Oklahoma recognizes the three classes at 47 O.S. § 11-1209, which gives electric-assisted bicycles the rights and duties of bicycles and exempts them from license and registration requirements. No person under 16 may operate a Class 3, though a younger rider may be a passenger on a Class 3 designed to carry one. There is no statewide helmet requirement — Norman is one of the few Oklahoma cities that requires helmets for riders under 18. Class 3 eBikes must be equipped with a speedometer, and manufacturers must apply a label showing class, top assisted speed and motor wattage.
