Maine's eBike rules sit in 29-A M.R.S. § 2063(14). All three classes are recognized and eBikes are exempt from registration, licensing and insurance. Maine is stricter than most states on youth riding: a person under 16 may not operate a Class 2 or a Class 3 — only Class 1 is open to younger riders. Every operator or passenger under 16 must wear a properly fitted helmet on any class. Trail access is the practical constraint in Maine: Acadia National Park permits only Class 1 eBikes on its carriage roads, and many land trusts and rail-trails set their own class limits.
