Louisiana keeps its eBike definitions in La. R.S. 32:1 and its riding rules in R.S. 32:204. All three classes are recognized and no license, registration or insurance is required. Louisiana sets an unusually low Class 3 age floor — 12 — but pairs it with a strict helmet rule: every Class 3 operator and passenger must wear an approved helmet regardless of age. Separately, no parent or guardian may let a child under 12 ride any bicycle, including a Class 1 or Class 2 eBike, without a properly fitted helmet. A first helmet offense carries a $50 fine that can be waived if you show proof of buying a compliant helmet. New Orleans and other municipalities add their own path and French Quarter restrictions.
