eBike Laws in Georgia

Georgia's eBike law came through HB 454, codified at O.C.G.A. § 40-6-300 et seq., and caps qualifying "electric assisted bicycles" at 750 watts. All three classes are legal and no license, registration or insurance is required. Georgia sets its Class 3 age floor at 15 rather than the more common 16, and requires a helmet for every Class 3 operator and passenger regardless of age. Class 1 and Class 2 may be ridden where bicycles are allowed; Class 3 is intended for roads and bike lanes. Riding on sidewalks is prohibited in most circumstances, and metro Atlanta path systems such as the BeltLine post their own speed and class rules.

Classes allowed: Class 1, 2 and 3 recognized; Class 3 riders 15+ and helmeted
